Delicious Cantaloupe and Black Pepper Granita Easy Recipe
WHAT IS A GRANITA?
Granita is a semi-frozen dessert made from water, sugar, and various flavorings of your choise. It was originally created in Sicily, a city in Italy. it is available throughout Italy in varying forms.
This recipe is made of shaved ice, cantaloupe melon and a welcome hit of spice of black pepper.
SERVES/YIELD: 8
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds of cantaloupe melon, remove rind and seeds and coarsely chopped
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise or any other sweet dessert wine
- 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper, plus coarsely ground for serving
Instructions:
- Use the blender to puree the mixture of cantaloupe, sugar, Muscat, and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper. Blend until it gets nice and smooth. Transfer the mixture to a shallow baking dish and freeze it for about 30 minutes or until the edges begin to set.
- Scrape mixture to break up frozen portions using a fork. Freeze, scraping and breaking up every 20–30 minutes for about 2 to 4 hours, until the mixture resembles nice fluffy shaved ice. Serve the granita topped with coarsely ground pepper.
DO AHEAD TIP:
- Granita can be made 3 days ahead. Cover with plastic wrap and keep frozen. Scrape before serving.
